In 2024, couples are embracing a some of the old, along with some of the new styles when it comes to their wedding cakes, from minimalist elegance to extravagant statement pieces. We know you’re busy with all things wedding planning and we don’t want the cake to be another tough choice for you. So, we’ve kept an eye on the trends and are ready to share them with you! And for what it’s worth, you know you can trust us because we have a bunch of awards as Phoenix’s favorite wedding cake bakery and people love us and all that, plus our cakes are just really, really good! Let’s dive in to the 2024-2025 wedding cake trends!
One of the standout trends for 2024 is the rise of minimalist wedding cakes. These cakes exude elegance through simplicity, featuring clean lines, understated decorations. For couples seeking a refined and contemporary aesthetic, a minimalist wedding cake is the perfect choice. At Silver Rose, we love creating minimalist masterpieces that make a striking statement with their understated beauty. Of course, the taste is anything but simple. With over 30 flavors to choose from, don’t forget to order a wedding cake tasting kit to nail down the perfect flavor for you and your guests. If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a thousand times, be picky! It’s your wedding!
While minimalist cakes are gaining popularity, classic designs continue to hold a special place in the hearts of many couples. Timeless designs with added touches like beautifully places florals or the perfect topper remain lasting favorites that never seem to go out of style. We continue to fulfill orders for wedding cakes like the semi-naked, smooth frosted, facet, and birchwood cakes These designs evoke a sense of tradition and charm, making them perfect for weddings in both indoor and outdoor settings.
For those planning higher-end weddings, extravagance is the name of the game in 2024. Big, bold cakes covered with gorgeous seasonal flowers, succulents, or intricate piping are in high demand, reminiscent of the opulent Lambeth cake style. We absolutely love baking these cakes and can’t tell you enough how much fun it is to decorate them, especially the large, 7 tier cakes! We may have to pull out the ladder to get to the top, but they’re worth it! These statement cakes serve as focal points of the reception, wowing guests with their grandeur and intricate detailing. A picture really is worth a thousand words, so you can see for yourself, but we must tell you, we excel in creating these luxurious cakes that quite literally elevate any wedding celebration to new heights of sophistication.
If bigger isn't better for you, you're in luck this year! Another trend that's making the rounds faster than we expected is cutting cakes for the couple and individual cakes for each table. We usually only get requests for one or two of these a year. But we've already received several of these orders for mini cakes this year! What we're typically seeing is that couples want to have their cutting cake to match the same design as the cakes on each table. Sometimes the cutting cake, while still keeping with the mini cake trend, is smaller but occasionally tiered. Another option we're seeing is to have the mini cakes beautifully displayed on the cake table. In this setup they're usually different, but complementing designs.
In addition to these trends, personalization is finding its way onto the wedding cake for couples looking to infuse their wedding with unique touches that reflect their personalities and love story. From custom flavors and fillings to fun cake toppers and tiny details, the possibilities for personalization are endless. At Silver Rose, we work closely with each couple to bring their vision to life and create a one-of-a-kind wedding cake that perfectly encapsulates their love and style. We love love and nothing beats the joy and excitement in our couples’ faces when they see little pieces of their love story built into their wedding cake.
As we venture further into 2024, the world of wedding cakes is brimming with excitement and innovation. From minimalist elegance to extravagant statement pieces, there's a trend to suit every couple's taste and style. We’re dedicated to staying ahead of the curve and crafting unforgettable wedding cakes that exceed our clients' expectations. Whether you're drawn to the simplicity of a minimalist design or the grandeur of a lavish masterpiece, we're here to bring your vision to life and create a cake that's as unique as your love story.

Let’s start by clearing the air right away, wedding cakes are not going out of style. Period. There are just more options available these days. Cupcakes made a name for themselves 10-15 years ago and now, it’s time for dessert tables to do their thing. These can all coexist harmoniously to provide the wedding of your dreams. Have some couples begun opting for smaller cakes, over the grand four or five-tier cakes we’ve seen for years? Of course. This isn’t a surprise to anyone though. We started seeing this and even wrote about it a couple of years ago in our blog about cutting cakes. Even when couples do opt primarily for a dessert table, they still want the joy, and the photo op, of cutting a cake. They know that in 40-50 years when they’re looking at their wedding pictures, that tiny cake will without question be remembered as their wedding cake.
We don’t want you to think that we’re all Team Wedding Cake or Team Dessert Table. We really are Team Wedding Couple! We’ve won awards for both our desserts and our wedding cakes (I know, humble brag much?). So, trust us when we say, we love both equally. Our goal is for our couples to pick whichever option best serves the needs of their dream wedding.
Here are a few factors to consider when choosing the dessert option for your wedding:
We’re still Team Wedding Couple. Our goal is to help you plan the wedding of your dreams, whether that includes cake, dessert, or both, but let’s talk about a few of the pros of a dessert table for those who are leaning in that direction.
Dessert tables are great for those looking for visual variety and quantity. With a dessert table, there’s more to look at. It’s not just about the desserts, though that part is nice. You have more opportunities for decorative platters, towers, and even dessert walls. The possibilities are only limited by your creativity. This is your chance to incorporate your wedding decorations, floral, or even family heirlooms in a functional way.
On top of adding visual variety to your wedding reception, there are more options for taste, too. You can mix familiar desserts, like cupcakes and cookies for the picky eaters, with fancier desserts, like mini tarts or parfaits for those with more refined palates. There really is something for everyone when it comes to a dessert table.
Let’s talk about some of the pros of wedding cakes now. Did we mention that we’re still Team Wedding Couple? Whether you opt for a small cutting cake or the traditionally stacked cake, it’s still a wedding cake. The biggest wedding cake pro that most couples tell us and their reason for ordering cake over a dessert table is that they want to experience that cake-cutting moment. That’s a moment that, at least for a lot of us, we dream about for ages leading up to our weddings. It’s something that some of us picture before we even meet our loves. Sure, it’s cliché and it’s something that we’ve seen on TV. But we want it. We deserve it. There’s nothing wrong with that. That tradition is significant and is the first official activity that you do together as a married couple. It matters and cake is required.
When you go with a wedding cake you don’t have to worry about disappointing anyone. Sure, you’ll have someone who might not like the flavor. But no one can complain that you were weird and didn’t even have a cake at your wedding. You’re in the throes of wedding planning. We don’t even need to explain this any further, do we? We wish wedding planning didn’t include trying to satisfy distant relatives that you’ll only see twice in the next decade. But we don’t make the rules.
You probably noticed that we didn’t mention cost in any of the above. This was intentional. This is where we may ruffle some feathers. If you do a Google Search for “wedding cakes vs dessert tables” today (around the end of 2023), you’ll get a few results from other bakeries all over the country, plus a few 10+-year-old results from the big guys like Wedding Wire or The Knot. If you dig into each of those links, they mostly all agree that wedding cakes wind up being cheaper than dessert tables. We’re going to disagree and say it depends, 100% of the time.
I know that’s not what you wanted to hear. Here’s why though, dessert tables are so customizable! You can build your dessert table with platters from the party store and serve cookies and cupcakes for far less expensive than a wedding cake. You can also order a wedding cake and dessert table combo and have the best of both worlds! You can throw in a few of the fancier desserts and do rental platters and serving ware. It just all depends! The good news is, we’re here for all of this. Any good bakery will be.
This is why we keep saying that we’re Team Wedding Couple! Wedding cakes are definitely not going out of style. Don’t let anyone tell you that. If some ambitious wedding planner, a Pinterest post, or the latest article in Vogue Weddings tells you that wedding cakes aren’t on trend for this year, ask yourself one question, do you want cake at your wedding? If the answer is yes, then order a cake for your wedding! Our job here at Silver Rose Bakery is to make your wedding the Sweetest experience regardless of what you choose. If you're in Arizona and still need some help choosing, reach out. We'd love to help plan a Sweet experience for you.

One thing that you can control though, is the placement of your wedding cake table. That’s what we’re here to talk about today. We’ve been in this business for a long time, and we’ve seen some doozies. Where you put your cake table (or tell someone to put it) can make a big difference in your reception. The last thing you want is a picture of your gorgeous, one-of-a-kind wedding cake making some list of the top 10 wedding cake fails somewhere online. So, let’s get into the dos and don’ts of wedding cake table placement.
First, let’s talk about the things you should avoid when placing your wedding cake table in your reception area.
Do not place your wedding cake table on uneven surfaces, like grassy areas or slants. This one may seem like a no-brainer. But we’ve seen it done too many times for it to not make the list. All it takes is one bump from your aunt Lucile whose vertigo is kicking in after a few spins on the dance floor and your cake and desserts are ant food. It’s just not worth the risk, for you or your poor aunt Lucile who I know would feel terrible.
Do not place tiered wedding cakes on tall cocktail tables, especially if you’re using a cake stand. A cocktail table at a wedding is already almost a guarantee for a little spill, but when you put a cake on it, you’re in for disaster. These tables are highly unstable and not meant for holding much more than a drink and small appetizer. Those messes can be quickly cleaned up and the happy couple is none-the-wiser. These tables are definitely not meant for holding a heavy wedding cake, though. Plus, think of the pictures. Do you really want your armpits exposed in your cake-cutting photos because you have to reach up high? Shoutout to all the fellow short people, we’ve got your back!
Do not place your cake table (or dessert table) in full sun! This may seem like another obvious one, but you’d be surprised. Plus, remember what’s in full sun at 10 am when you’re setting up will not be what’s in full sun when your cake arrives at 2 pm. This is a given for most baked goods, but especially wedding cakes. Our cakes here at Silver Rose are made with butter and butter has a melting point of 82 – 97 degrees Fahrenheit and it takes less than 20 minutes for your cake to go from a culinary masterpiece and your dream vision to a dripping, gooey buffet for the bugs on the ground. So, especially here in Arizona, if your wedding is outdoors, please plan and schedule your delivery accordingly or find a suitable placement where your wedding cake won’t become wedding soup, albeit tasty wedding soup.
Do not skimp on your cake stand. I know you had a 40% off coupon for that cake stand you saw at the craft store. But do you really want to place your 4-tier wedding cake, which probably cost a solid chunk of your wedding budget, on something that you bought at discount? It’s just not worth the risk of a caketastrophe. Your bakery will recommend a great cake stand for your needs that meets your style, size, and budget. A good wedding cake bakery, Silver Rose included, will not use a cake stand if we feel it’s unsuitable for your cake.
Do not place your cake in a “forgotten” corner of the room. Of course, we’re biased, but a beautifully decorated cake and dessert table should be one of the first things guests see when they walk into the reception hall. It builds anticipation and is a great way to ensure that as little goes to waste as possible. We recommend placing your cake table near the sweetheart table.
Now that we know what not to do when it comes to wedding cake and dessert table placement, let’s talk about what you should do. Here are a few things to keep in mind.
Always place your cake table on a sturdy table and ground. The standard banquet table is 6 feet and works great. Wooden tables, round tables, and wine barrels are great options, too. We recommend placing the table on a solid surface. So, for those backyard weddings, try to save a spot on the patio or another flat surface for the cake table.
Plan for enough space when considering your guest list. It can be easy to get caught up in the seating chart and trying to figure out where to sit Aunt Sally so she doesn’t start any drama with Cousin Kathy. While you’re thinking of all those seating arrangements, just make sure you plan for a seat for the wedding cake and its friends. That’s right we just made your cake table a wedding guest. Aunt Sally won’t mind.
Make sure to buy plenty of dessert stands, platters, and plates. If you’re unsure always ask your bakery or dessert caterer. We do this kind of thing literally every weekend of the year. So, even though this may be new to you, it’s a walk in the park for us. We got you. We can help with size, placement, and arrangement. We want your pictures to be beautiful!
Speaking of photos, check out the background of your cake and dessert table. Is there a bathroom, fire extinguisher, weird painting, thermostat, ugly doorframe? This cake is going to be a focal point of a lot of photos in your wedding album. The last thing you want is for a window with a porta-potty sitting right outside to be in every picture. Yes, this has happened in real life. Yes, it made us sad. I would rather have a boring background than a portable toilet any day. It could also be a good idea to ask your photographer before placing the table in front of any large windows or sources of light.
When all else fails, just let your bakery set up the cake table for you. We love decorating dessert and cake tables. We’re good at it and most other wedding cake bakeries are, too. Don’t be offended if we don’t use every piece of décor you bought. Sometimes less is more. No matter what, our goal is to make sure you have a beautiful wedding cake, beautiful photos, and a memorable cake experience on your big day.
Here at Silver Rose Bakery, we’ve got your back. We’ve seen the truly good, the bad, the ugly…and the just plain funny and weird when it comes to wedding cake table placement. We know that your wedding photographer will thank you if you consider these few dos and don’ts of wedding cake table placement brought to you by your favorite wedding cake bakery. There are a couple of options for how you can serve your wedding cake to your guests. Some people choose to have the catering staff serve the cake, while others go with a buffet table. We’ve baked wedding cakes and made desserts for thousands of weddings in Arizona (and beyond!). We’ve seen both options done beautifully and honestly don’t have a real preference. After all, both end up with cake and that’s all that really matters! We do know the pros and cons of both a serving cake and a buffet table though. So, read on to learn more!
Well, that’s the pros and cons of having your wedding cake served by the catering staff. As we mentioned earlier, we don’t really have a preference. Both serving cake and a buffet table are great options. Keep reading for the pros and cons of a buffet table.
So, there you have it. We hope that we’ve given you a few things to think about when it comes to the different ways to serve your wedding cake to your guests. There is no right or wrong way to do it. It’s whatever works best for you and your wedding. Whichever option you end up picking will be amazing, and we’d love to bake a beautiful wedding cake for you either way!

We like to think that next to the dress, the cake is the star of the show. We kid…mostly. I mean, everyone at the wedding gets a piece of it. Everyone sees it when they walk into the reception. Everyone has something to say about it. It’s gotta be good, right? So, when should you start meeting with your wedding cake bakery? Let’s talk about that.
It does depend on where you’re getting married, but here in Phoenix, where we’ve won the couple’s choice award every year since 2018, we recommend that you meet with your wedding cake bakery 3-4 months before the wedding. If you’re planning a larger wedding and want a dessert table, plus a wedding cake, shoot for 5-6 months. If you’re planning a smaller wedding and just a beautiful cake will suffice, still stick to those 3-4 months, because Arizona is a hot spot for weddings and those dates will fill up fast.
The second thing we see often as far as the best-laid plans go, you may just change your mind. If you leave too much time between when you meet with us and your wedding date, you may realize you want something different. The wedding industry doesn’t move slowly. Trends change. Your color palette could change. Wedding vibes change. We’ve even seen venues change! So, you’ll want as much as possible set in stone before you book your wedding cake bakery.
There are a lot of suggestions out there. So, take every suggestion you see with a grain of salt (or sugar…we just can’t resist a little bakery humor haha). But we hope we’ve broken down the reasons that we recommend meeting with your wedding cake bakery 3-4 months before the wedding, and 5-6 months for bigger weddings including dessert tables.
If your nuptials are upcoming, we’re excited to bake for you and start planning your one-of-a-kind wedding cake. Give our new Wedding Cake Customizer a try.

Once you’ve given thought to all of these things and have decided that you want flowers on your wedding cake, here are a few more specific planning tasks to keep in mind to talk about with the wedding cake bakery of your choice.
Now I bet you’re wondering what Silver Rose does when it comes to flowers and wedding cakes. Well, even if you’re not, we’re going to tell you. We get our fresh flowers from a local Phoenix florist, Four Seasons Flower Shop. We love designing wedding cakes with flowers. No two cakes are the same and they all turn out so beautiful. So, we do this often. This means we buy a lot of flowers at market price and are able to pass those savings on to you, the happy couple. Some of our cakes have flowers included in the price, some don’t. Either way, we’ll cover everything price related with you in your free wedding cake consultation.
We prefer to be the ones to cut, prep, and place the flowers on the cakes ourselves. Call us control freaks if you like. We’ll toot our own horn for a second and remind you that we’re award-winning wedding cake designers for six years and running. If we did not provide the flowers, we typically arrive after the florist leaves on your wedding day. So, we ask that your florist (or whoever has been assigned) leaves the cake flowers on the cake table. It’s important to mark those flowers as cake flowers. Otherwise, some well-meaning bridesmaid or cousin may think they belong at the end of a pew or on someone’s table. We’ll carefully cut the stems to the appropriate length, wrap them with floral tape (because flower goop is not an ingredient in any of our delicious wedding cake recipes), and place them accordingly on the cake.
We’ve designed and baked hundreds, maybe even thousands, of wedding cakes with flowers over the years. We never get tired of seeing our couples’ personalities shine through with their flower choices. We would love to bake your cake for your upcoming wedding. Reach out today if you’re ready to talk about what kind of flowers to add.

To be honest, some of the trends from our 2022 -2023 Wedding Cakes Trends blog haven’t changed much. Semi-naked cakes are still top of the list. Boho has transitioned into more of an earthy feel and couples are still loving introducing colors into their cakes. Aside from that, black cakes are making a splash, as well as modern and metallic cakes. Let’s dive into each of these and how you can incorporate each into your venue.
I’m not sure that we’ll ever stop getting requests for semi-naked wedding cakes. You really cannot go wrong with this classic. A semi-naked cake reigns supreme because of its versatility. It’s a blank canvas that can be dressed up or dressed down. Are you getting married in a ballroom with 200+ guests? No problem. The semi-naked cake is perfect. We can bake a three, four, or even five-tier cake, with an elegant cake topper and stunning fresh or artificial florals or accessories of your choosing. Getting married in the backyard with 20 guests? The semi-naked cake is also perfect! We can make a nice one- or two-tier cake with customized accessories or florals and a cake topper that shouts YOU! The semi-naked cake really is great for any setting, rustic, ballroom, modern, chic…you name it!
Last year, we talked about boho cake designs that were making their appearance at weddings. This natural, woodsy, neutral-feeling cake is still popular, but it’s making more of a transition into an earthy trend for 2023-2024. Instead of the bohemian, vintage feel, think mixed textures, scattered florals, and a relaxed but romantic feeling. We’re having a lot of fun designing these cakes with our couples because no two cakes are even close to the same and we love how creative we can get with the mixed textures of multi-tier cakes. Plus, as an added bonus, the earthy cake design looks amazing in photos!
We have to admit, we have a love-hate relationship with dark hues. While this is a trending cake design and it does make for a stunning wedding cake, we always strongly suggest that if you want to include black, red, blue, and sometimes purple, you bring these colors in with an accessory like ribbons, flowers, or your cake topper. You can also use fondant as your base color. We’ve heard one too many horror stories of guests or even the wedding party, including brides’ and grooms’, mouths being turned black from a dark-colored frosting. We won’t share the words that we have for those bakers here. All of those wedding pictures! Ugh! We cringe! The good news is, we have lots of creative ways you can still hop on this fun trend, without having to explain to future generations why grandma and grandpa’s teeth were black in all their wedding photos.
I know, what is a modern wedding cake in 2023? I’m glad you asked. We’re talking about cakes with sharp edges, gold foil (we love cakes with metallic foil!), or exotic flowers. Think about those big ballroom wedding cakes. Those are modern wedding cakes. We’ve even done a few square wedding cakes and some that were square on the bottom tier and round on the next, then square again. The smooth frosting of these cakes and minimalistic accessories gave them a chic, modern look. We also can’t go without talking about one of our favorites, gold foil wedding cakes! We get endless compliments every time we make these! Gold is a trending color everywhere right now because, hello 1990s! Add some precious, strategically placed florals and you’ve got the wedding cake of your dreams!
We say this every year when we write our wedding cakes trends blog and we’ll say it again, trends come and go. We bake cakes every day and we like to think that as an award-winning wedding cake bakery, and with over 100 5-star reviews, we’re not too bad at it. So, take our word for it when we say that the most important trend is this – make it your own! We can still incorporate any of these 2023-2024 wedding cake trends into your unique, one-of-a-kind custom wedding cake. So, don’t hesitate to reach out to us and schedule a consultation. We love getting to know our couples so that we can design that perfect cake for your big day!
In 2021, over 22,000 couples got married in the Phoenix metropolitan area. With over one hundred amazing venues to choose from, we want to give couples one more reason to make your venue THE venue for their big day. Don’t worry, wedding planners, we haven’t forgotten about you either. We’ve been in the industry for almost a decade now. We know how hard you work for your couples. Here are a few reasons we believe we’re the best wedding cake bakery in Phoenix and why you should choose us as your exclusive partner:
If you’ve read any of our other blogs, you’ve probably noticed that we really love what we do, not only because we love running a small business, being a part of special celebrations, and baking…we also really love cake! That’s why having cakes that genuinely taste good is so important to us. Being in the wedding industry, I’m sure it’s not a surprise to you that wedding cakes sometimes get a bad rep. They can have a stereotype of being dry and nasty. That’s absolutely not us. Other than “delicious”, our cakes have been described with words like – soft, moist, and melt-in-your-mouth. We have a list of delicious flavors to choose from and can create any flavor combination your couple wants. We base our cake recipe on an old family recipe from Priscilla’s family that hasn’t failed us yet.
“My wedding cake was exactly as the picture I sent them and it was VERY tasty (honestly, the best wedding cake I have ever had) both flavors I picked were awesome and everyone loved the cake!” – Rand H.
“Absolutely amazing! The cake was exactly as I dreamed and tasted even better! They were a delight to work with! They did regular cake, gluten-free cake and vegan desserts! Totally encompassing!” – Caitlin K.
Keeping up with design trends is important in any industry, but it’s the trendsetters who really shake things up. We can do both. We’ll always love the classic white wedding look. If you’re like us though, your eyes light up and wheels start spinning when you hear the words, “I want to break tradition and do something different.” We’re here to tell you that we’ve got that covered. We’ve incorporated different colors, shapes, toppers, and florals into our wedding cakes. We even had a wedding cake with Deadpool hiding conspicuously on the bottom. We can’t say we’ve done it all though, because we come up with new ideas all the time and are ready to share them with you!
We’re just going to say it, your clients need more than white and chocolate cake from which to choose. They need more than four or five options. We understand that it takes time to perfect several flavors. Well, we’ve taken the time. We offer over 30 wedding cake flavors! You can print off a full list here. As a bonus, we don’t charge extra to mix and match different flavors with stacked cakes. This is a great option for large weddings and tiered cakes with a lot of picky guests to satisfy. Fair warning though, make sure to order a cake tasting kit! Flavors like PB&J may sound like they’re just for the kids, but we promise all of your guests will love them! We had a couple once who thought the smaller tier would work for PB&J, despite our protests. Spoiler alert! It was the most requested flavor at the wedding!
An alternative option that’s been popular lately is for couples to have their own small cutting cake rather than the traditional stacked cake. Then, for their guests, they go with a dessert table that includes dessert bites. Some of these are cake-based, while others may be trendy, unique, fun, and/or elegant. We have a large dessert catering menu from which to choose that includes way more than cakes and cupcakes.
We love that things like social media and online networking groups have made it so easy to become a professional baker these days. It’s part of our story and we are proud to be a part of a community of so many talented cake decorators and bakeries. With what seems like everyone’s best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend becoming a baker though, how do you shuffle through all the names to find the best? First, start with the ones who quote Ferris Bueller. Just kidding, sort of.
Seriously though, here are a few of our recommendations for finding the best wedding cake bakery:
This one is becoming more and more normal, which we’re so happy about! We probably could have included this in one of the other sections, but we’re especially proud of how great our recipes are with dietary restrictions. We offer cakes with options for Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, Egg-Free, and Soy-free.
Again, we don’t want you to take our word for it –
“My wedding cake looked so beautiful, and tasted so good! Guests at the wedding reception were RAVING! I had no idea that a gluten & dairy free cake could taste so amazing:) It is hard to find places that can accommodate dietary restrictions, and this place did such a wonderful job. I'm so grateful to have been able to eat some wedding cake on my wedding day!” - Kaitlyn B.
“Seriously I am so impressed it's not even funny!!!! I am gluten and dairy free so my life is a little hard when it comes to desserts. I was not expecting my wedding cake to taste so delicious. None of my guests even knew that it was gluten-free dairy-free until we told them they were all blown away. I ordered a vanilla with strawberry filling for my bottom layer and chocolate with raspberry filling for the top. They absolutely nailed that design I was going for and the flavors were just amazing I will definitely be ordering from them again!!!” - Ashley L.
Another aspect to consider is delivery. If your couple’s cake doesn’t make it to the wedding on time, that’s a less-than-desired experience. We know that as a wedding planner or venue, you certainly do not have time to pick up a cake. We’ll take care of the delivery and set it up for you. While we do use a service to deliver some of our celebration cakes for things like birthdays and showers, a member of our wedding team will personally deliver your couple’s wedding cake and expertly set it up. We deliver to all of the state of Arizona and we’re pros at transporting wedding cakes.
Delivery is more than just dropping off the cake in some boxes for us. We fully assemble the cake, just as you and/or your couple pictured it when we designed it. We prep, stack the cake, and place the flowers, the topper, and set up any décor on the cake table. We expertly craft the dessert table for efficient flow during the reception. Then, we make ourselves scarce so that the couple and guests can enjoy themselves. A job well done for us is when a cake and dessert table magically appears without you or your couple having to worry about it at all on the day of.
Since the whole point of this blog is to convince wedding planners and wedding venues that Silver Rose is the best wedding cake bakery to partner with as your preferred vendor, other than satisfied customers, beautiful, and delicious cake – what’s in it for you? I’ll tell you!

It’s been a minute since we last talked about Wedding Cake Trends. Two years ago, we were coming off the heels of our first summer of a global pandemic. We were all learning together how to celebrate and gather safely. Wedding trends included a lot of pivoting, eloping, postponing, and downsizing guest lists to backyard weddings.
While we can’t make up for it, we also can’t go without recognizing that being engaged and planning a wedding in the middle of COVID came with a lot of hearts broken over perfect wedding days that never came to be. Brides who never got the chance to walk down the aisle in their dream dress. Grooms who missed the chance to smash that cake in their newlywed’s face. If you had to skip your dream wedding due to the pandemic, our hearts break for you, too. We see you.
We definitely can’t change the past or you know…the world, but our superpower for making the things a little bit better is that sweet, frosted, melt-in-your mouth, but almost too pretty to eat thing we all love called cake. So, whether you’re finally planning your wedding reception to celebrate a 2020 elopement, or it’s time for your big 2022 or 2023 wedding, let’s dive into some of the biggest wedding cake trends for this year!
Weddings are not the only things making a big comeback, wedding cakes are too, literally! Couples have waited two long years, (or longer!) to make this whole marriage thing official. So, they aren’t skimping. When guests walk into that reception hall, jaws are dropping at the size of these 4-5 tier cakes! We’re talking people-sized cakes! We need a team of professionals, ladders, and specialty equipment like PVC pillars, Styrofoam and boba straws to assemble them (and that’s not just because Team Sweet is also Team Short). These cakes are anywhere from 2.5 feet to 5 feet tall! Assembling these beautiful behemoths on site takes only takes about an hour to put together. That of course doesn’t include the time it takes us in the bakery to bake and decorate them, though.
The hard work to create these giant works of wedding cake art is so worth it! When our clients see their visions come to life, we can’t get enough of the grins and gasps. With the average guest count around 160 these days, wedding planners and couples love the ability to offer different flavors, with each tier and there’s never a concern about running out of cake. Not to mention, just look at how pretty…and we all collectively say, “awwww!”
No matter how many tiers you decide to go with, the most requested cake design we’ve been getting over the past few months is the semi-naked cake. The thing that we love the most about this cake is that, like a great outfit, it can be dressed up or dressed down. You can make a semi-naked cake work perfectly for a buttoned-up classy & elegant wedding just as well as you can a more laidback or rustic wedding.
A semi-naked wedding cake design has a thin frosting layer on the exterior of the cake. The frosting is applied just so that it looks beautiful while still protecting the cake to retain that soft, perfect amount of moisture in every bite. Each cake is made in three layers, with two layers of filling and three layers of cake. The outside frosting is classic vanilla, and you pick the filling and the cake flavors! We can send a cake tasting kit right to your door if you’re not sure which flavors you want.
To mix things up and make it your own, we can add coordinating flowers or greenery to match your wedding colors, and of course a fun or sentimental cake topper of your choosing. The possibilities or endless. This is where the semi-naked design really shines. With such a modest, blank canvas as the base, the accents are really where this cake can show off each couple’s unique personality while still not going overboard and upsetting that one traditional great aunt who wants everything to be old school. The semi-naked cake makes for an adorable tiny single tier cake or you can go big with a multi-tier cake.
The latest new design that we’ve been absolutely loving is the boho cake design, sometimes called the boho chic design. More and more weddings are leaning toward a natural, eclectic bohemian style wedding theme for the 2022 and 2023 season and we are here for it! These cakes incorporate gold flakes, which we will never say no to. They also have lots of neutral color florals and a vintage-y, woodsy feeling to the overall design. Think about those pictures you’ve seen when color photography was just starting to become a thing. Are you picturing your most free-spirited, nature-loving, but stylish and cool grandparents who had gorgeous wedding photos? Perfect. They were trend-setters and they didn’t even know it.
The best part about a boho wedding cake is that, just like a semi-naked cake, the accents are what really make the cake. We can do a facet cake, a semi-naked, a deckle-edge or even a smooth frosted or watercolor cake (that’s the one we put the gold flakes in!) and still make it a boho cake. Choose your number of tiers, too. This best of both worlds design means that you have even more customization options to make that one-of-a-kind wedding cake of your dreams! We especially love the way the boho cake design pairs nicely with some of the venues here in Phoenix in our beautiful desert settings, like the Willow AZ.
An oldie, but a goodie - the birchwood wedding cake has been a top wedding cake trend that’s stuck around for a few years, and we don’t see it going away anytime soon. Couples love this rustic design almost as much as we love cake, and that’s a lot! The birchwood design is also known as the “tree cake design” and is great for those barn weddings, or any open outdoor spaces, forests, or cottage-type weddings.
Just like all our wedding cakes, the birchwood cake has our classic vanilla frosting on the outside and is made with three layers of cake and two layers of filling on the inside. You pick the cake and filling layers! We can make a small, birchwood cutting cake or keep up with all the wedding trends and make it a 4-5 tier birchwood cake. We’ll add the florals and topper of your choosing. Lastly, because what tree would be complete without it? We’ll carve the happy couple’s initials into the side of the cake with a sweet heart around them.
Not into the traditional classic vanilla, white wedding cake? We get that. We definitely love making the gorgeous white wedding cakes that every mother of the bride will approve of (and not balk at writing the check for). But we also can’t deny that we get a big grin on our faces when that call comes in from a couple who says, “I want to do something different.” Our creative juices start flowing! We LOVE thinking outside of the box and challenging ourselves to design something new and exciting for your big day.
So, if you’re thinking of doing something a bit different, we’ve got you covered. We can work together to design a beautiful wedding cake for you that will incorporate trending colors, but still scream YOU! Some of the most popular colors we’ve seen are pastels, blush pinks, navy blues, burgundy reds, dusty anything – dusty rose, dusty, oranges, dusty blues, ivory (that’s not white, right?), and champagne. We can bring these colors into the frosting just a little or a lot. We can use these in the flowers or the cake topper. If you want color, let’s chat!
I think the further we get into the 2020s the more people in general are feeling an overall attitude of, “let’s not take things so seriously”. Life is hard. Planning a wedding is hard. Planning a wedding twice is just dumb. Let’s have a little fun. Sure, there will always be the couples who love the perfectly adorable newlywed figures on top of the cake in their wedding attire. We love those. But, we’ve also been 100% here for the fun toppers with colorful sayings like, “About Damn Time” or “Shit Just Got Real”. Of course, it doesn’t have to be curse words. We saw one that just said, “Finally” with two intertwined hearts.
Then, there’s always the different take on the newlywed figures…the couple in superhero form, as characters from their favorite video game or movie, chasing one another around the top of the cake…this could really go any way you want it to…Etsy is a dangerous place! Whatever you decide to do for your wedding cake topper, the key is to make it fun and to make it special to you. It’s your wedding! Make it about you!
Wedding cake trends will always come and go. As an award-winning wedding cake bakery, 5 years running, if we have one piece of advice to give you when it comes to your wedding cake, it’s to make it yours. If you’re planning a 2022 or 2023 wedding, chances are it’s a long-time coming. Don’t settle on a crappy cake because you just want to get it over with. We eat, sleep, and breathe cake. Literally. We’re here to answer all your wedding cake questions and genuinely want you to have the best day possible. No matter what design you pick, having a great tasting cake that your guests talk about for months after your wedding is a trend that will never go out of style. That’s where we come in. Let’s get started today.

Once you’ve settled on the flavor, the design, and the size of the cake you want, you still have a few more decisions to make. Sorry, I know you thought you were done. Close, but not quite yet. We still need to decide on your cake stand, your cake topper, and your cake cutting set. Let’s get to it.
If you just Google “wedding cake stands”, you’ll get 89 million results. Not kidding, 89,600,000 to be exact. Of course, you can narrow it down by price, theme, shape, and a few different filters. But let’s go over the basics so you feel a bit more equipped before we send you off into the wild searching for that perfect cake stand.
There are endless possibilities for cake toppers. Do you want to go cute? Serious? Fun? Sentimental? While we can’t exactly help with that, we can narrow it down a little for you. Cake toppers are generally broken down into two categories – figurines and acrylic 2d toppers.
One important tip to keep in mind, no matter the topper you choose to go with, check to see if it’s one prong or two prong stakes that goes into the cake. It’s ok if the topper itself is a bit larger than the top of the cake, but the prong(s) should fit the size of the cake you’re putting it on.
Bakeries typically don’t provide cutting utensils for your cake. Some couples use family heirlooms. Some couples grab the cheapest set they found while browsing the craft or kitchen aisles at Target. There’s no wrong way to do this. If you’re not sure what you want to do and you’d like to splurge a little for the special cake cutting moment at your wedding, may we recommend this fancy set (which can be personalized!) from Things Remembered? You’ll have these forever and can start the tradition in your family.
In true Silver Rose fashion, we don’t do things like most bakeries. Like we mentioned in the beginning, we’re a one-stop shop. If you want to check cake, and everything that goes with it, off your list in one fell swoop, we’ve created a package for you to do just that. Our Silver Rose Bakery Accessory Package is $150 and includes a wood cake stand, a custom cake topper of your choice in either acrylic or wood, and a cake cutting set. Don’t forget to ask us about it when you order your wedding cake!

So, what we’re saying is - if you don’t love cake as much as you should as we do, but you do love tradition, we still love you! We even have a solution! For generations, couples like you have suffered through ordering giant, rich, decadent, mouth-watering, moist (sorry, got carried away…) wedding cakes that they didn’t even want to eat. They would just pop the tiny top tier off, do the cake cutting ceremony, and hope their guests would eat the rest of the cake. Well, suffer no more, haters of buttercream frosted joy! The cutting cake is here!
A cutting cake is a small cake made solely for the purpose of the cake cutting tradition. It is a way for newlyweds to have something to cut (and maybe or maybe not smush in one another’s faces) during the reception, and forego the larger, full-size wedding cake.
Don’t get us wrong, we do love the big, three, four, or even five-tier wedding cakes. The bigger the better. There’s nothing more exciting to us as custom cake decorators than a couple who wants to go all out on their wedding cake. But it is true what they say, good things do come in small packages and these cutting cakes are a testament to that. We love the challenge of creating something tiny and special that captures your personality as a couple in just the right way, just for the two of you on your big day.
This evolving tradition started as just the bride cutting the cake, to symbolize the loss of her virginity. Over time couples started cutting the cake together. Picking up a slice and feeding it to your new husband or wife dates all the way back to Ancient Rome, as a symbol of the couple’s first act of unity and caring for their beloved. Then, of course, the cake smashing began. It’s always the ones you least expect.
The cake cutting tradition has lived on for many years and has taken on many forms over time. Many couples are opting for a cutting cake these days because of its benefits:
So, what’ll be? Are you going to go for the full-size wedding cake or a smaller, simple cutting cake? Either way, one thing is for sure, there must be cake!
OK – maybe I’m being a little dramatic or a lot. But come on, this really is a tough decision! We did poll our social media. While mini cupcakes took a commanding lead in the beginning, cake pops were the clear winner at the end of the day with 78% of the votes. Social media isn't the final say though...read on...
If you still can’t decide, here are a few tips from the pros (that’s us!). For what it’s worth, we’re a house divided here at Silver Rose Bakery. Some of us refuse to pick a favorite. We just can’t do it. Some of us say cake pops. Take that for what it’s worth. Don’t worry, if all else fails, you can always order both!
Can be customized – We can decorate cake pops to look like pandas, unicorns, honeybees, bunny rabbits, angry birds, cactuses, really an endless list of themes and fun or even classy ideas, depending on your event. Mini cupcakes, they can be matched to the color of your event.
Can be individually wrapped – This makes them a little easier to grab and go. So, cake pops travel a bit better.
Last longer – Our cake pops are fully coated in a candy shell. This keeps the cake on the inside moist longer.
Make great gifts – We make a lot of both mini cupcakes and cake pops. But the majority of the cake pops we make are for corporate or client gifts. They’re also great for ya know, Tuesday. We have a massage therapist who, at the end of every massage she gives, asks her client which flavor they’d prefer. Who wouldn’t love that!? Great massage + cake pop. We’ve got a photographer who sends cake pops as thank you gifts to their clients. No one has complained yet. They make great gifts.
Cake pop bouquets. - That's all. I mean, look...
Larger visual display on a dessert table – Mini cupcakes are just really pretty! They add so much visual appeal to a dessert table. The fancy swirly icing on top can be matched to whatever your event theme colors are and make a great presentation.
Smaller than standard cupcakes – This means fewer calories! If you’re counting that sort of thing, the average mini cupcake is about 97 calories. So, in bakery speak, that translates to, “eat more!”
Less expensive – Generally speaking, mini cupcakes are less expensive than cake pops because they can be produced in larger quantities and quicker.
More familiar – Let’s be honest, some people are just more traditional. You’ve got your picky eaters who refuse to eat something they’ve never tasted before. You’ve got those who have tried the popular coffee chain’s cake pops and, even though we’ve been told repeatedly that there is no comparison with ours, they still just can’t get behind the cake pop idea. So, they’ll forever be a cupcake fan. That’s cool.
Have you decided yet? The good news is, there's no wrong decision! Whichever one you decide to go with, you and your guests will love them! You can order either or both from our website now.
I want mini cupcakes!

In the spirit of the holiday though, I’d be remiss if I didn’t share a little of our love story, because you know…love. Michael and I met on match.com. As I mentioned earlier, I was single for 29 years before my love came into my life. I finally decided just shy of heading into my 30s that it was about time to stop going at this whole life thing alone. So, being 2012 and me being me – a type A personality, busy managing a popular retail store, having never really dated before, and not having the time to go about this thing the traditional way – I created my profile on match.com. I carefully selected all of my preferences, desires, and deal-breakers for my ideal mate and meticulously filled out all of the questions about myself. Am I a smoker? What’s the most spontaneous thing I’ve ever done? If I could change one thing about the world, what would it be? So many questions! I had a few matches, some weirdos, some nice guys…but no one special. Then, one day, I was matched with some guy named Michael Sweet.
We were matched on September 22, 2012. Our first date was September 30. After 3 years of dating, he proposed in Ireland in October 2015 and we became Mr. and Mrs. Sweet on September 10, 2016. Somewhere, in the middle of all of that, we started a bakery business. We decided early on with our bakery that we wanted to be different. We’re not exactly traditional ourselves. So, why would we be that way with our business? Out-of-the-box thinkers from the start, we’ve always wanted to make sure that our bakery was one of inclusiveness, love, and celebration. Whatever it is, it’s worth celebrating.
So, now that you have a tiny glimpse into our love story, we’d love to play a tiny part in your February 14. Whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day with your honey, with yourself, or with your friends or family…we have something for you. Without further ado, let’s make the day extra Sweet!
What’s better than delicious cookies with sweet messages on them? Hand out these individually wrapped cookies as Valentines and or just give the box or bag to someone special. Great gifts for teachers, neighbors, parents, or your significant other…or of course yourself! 20 cookies are $18.95 and come packaged in your choice of box or bag, ready to gift, and can be shipped or delivered.
Get them in a box!
Get them in a bag!
Any excuse to eat cake pops, right? That’s our theory. We have been told our cake pops are addictive. We can neither confirm nor deny this. You start making calls the next day. One bakery just laughs at you, another one tells you sure, they’ll make it for you. That’ll be $8,000. Would you like to pay with your firstborn or a credit card? The most common answer you get though, “We can make a similar cake, but not that exact design.”
Look, we get it. That cake is beautiful. We get why you love it. You’ve got great taste. But before you decide all is lost, first we’re here to tell you that it’s not. You can trust us to design a cake just as beautiful that I promise you’ll love. Who knows, maybe one day Princess Consuela-Perfect-Cake will see yours and be jealous! Second, let’s talk about why bakeries won’t copy a cake design from another cake decorator. You’ll find that lots of bakeries will take “inspiration” from pictures, but copying is pretty frowned upon in our industry.
...like legal trouble. Not to go all hippy on you or anything, but cake decorating is an art. The original designer of the cake you love has legal rights to the cake they created. They’re the artist, the first and the only ones to create that cake and as such, they have exclusive rights to recreate it or not. Although it is rare, yes, the original cake decorator can go as far as legal actions against another cake decorator for property rights violation.
No, we’re not going to charge you royal wedding cake prices. We aren’t going to charge you grocery store bakery prices either, though. We’ve legitimately had people say to us, “A box of cake mix is $2.99. Why do you charge so much?” Well, if you’ve read this far into our blog, chances are you don’t need us to answer that question. You already know that we don’t use boxed cake mix. You probably also know that the cakes you get from us are custom designed and hand-decorated just for your celebration. Any local bakery you order from will (or should) do the same. We’re not saying we’re all the dessert versions of Van Gogh or anything, but it certainly is something you that requires skill, lots of practice, and dare I say, artistic talent? Yeah, I dare.
Many times the price tag alone tells the final answer. For some bakers, projects that reach a particular price point are simply not worth attempting. This is due to skill, interest, and other factors. For the consumer, price is a BIG deal. Especially, here in Arizona where some cake designs simply don't happen as a result of the price tag associated.
The last little tip we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention, once you place your final order, try to keep it final. Your bakers are extremely busy and want to create something memorable for you. They’re creating pieces of art, that you can eat! Nothing kills inspiration more than a phone call with a last-minute change request.
It doesn't matter if you've been baking for years or if you're just getting started. We've all gotta start somewhere, right? Some people say they're decent cooks, but baking is a whole other story. Baking requires precision. It's all about getting the perfect amount of this and the right measure of that. There's nothing worse than diving into any project without the right tools. Baking is no exception. We figured, between Priscilla's lifetime of experience and Michael's quick learning, we'd share some of the tools we've learned along the way that just make life easier for every baker. And yes, in case you're wondering, we've definitely learned some of these lessons the hard way, like when Michael overfilled the cupcake cups and spilled batter all over the oven. *Hint - ice cream scoops are lifesavers (and oven savers!) for this!*
So, without further ado, here's what we've learned about the 20 must have kitchen items for every baker...from beginner to pro. Don't worry, we thought this through for you. It's no accident that we're posting this in time for holiday shopping. If you're looking for what to buy for the baker in your life, look no further. Or maybe you are the baker, we've got your back! Just share this post! We've included links to each item, so you know right where to buy them. We've also listed them by price, from stocking stuffer worthy to Dear Santa, please leave it under the tree!
Whether you’re planning a modified small, family get-together or you’re shooting for a virtual party, there must be dessert. There should always be dessert! Whatever your plans, let’s talk about your dessert options. Read on for the 9 most popular holiday party desserts, for groups big and small.
Who doesn’t love cake pops? This isn’t your coffee shop cake pop, though. Sure, it’s a ball of cake on a stick. But Silver Rose takes it up to another level. These little bites of heaven are cake and frosting, dipped in a candy melt. They can be personalized to your party’s theme colors, made in any flavor combinations and wrapped individually for low mess during the party! Yay for less clean up! If you’re feeling really ambitious, Silver Rose can even decorate them with cute little designs.
I mean, how much more can you really ask for? Dessert in a cup? Yes please! These tiny, clear cups, usually 1-3 ounces, are filled with all sorts of delectable, eye-pleasing treats that will make your dessert table the talk of the town. Some of the most popular fillings, complete with tiny spoon, include chocolate mousse, lemon mousse, berry trifle, strawberry shortcake, tiramisu, creamy no bake cheesecake, and so many more!
Did you know there’s a difference in macarons and macaroons? Maybe that’s another discussion for another blog. But, for today’s purposes, let’s talk about the tasty little almond flour cookie sandwiches, straight from France – macarons. If you’re going for a high-end, classy dessert table that says, “I spared no expense.” These are your best bet. With multiple color options and a smooth texture, macarons are the perfect touch to any party.
Santa cookies, snowman cookies, reindeer cookies, heck we can even make a turkey shaped cookie if that tickles your fancy. If you can think of it, we can make it (probably, let’s keep it PG-13). Our frosted sugar cookies have royal icing and the design can be as intricate or as simple as you want. The only complaint we’ve ever had about these cookies is that they’re too pretty to eat. Trust me though, once you take your first bite, you’ll get over that.
Four words – Chocolate. Dipped. Cream. Puff. Need I say more? Ok, I don’t need to, but I will. Baked evenly to have that perfect little, golden crunch when you bite into them, without even a hint of sogginess. Then you get a taste of the chocolate, along with that smooth, sweet pastry cream…is your mouth watering yet? Sit a few of these out for your guests and they’ll be gone before you know it. Fair warning, order extras.
80% of the weddings that ordered more than just a wedding cake from Silver Rose Bakery in the past year have included cheesecake bites in their wedding dessert table. So, it’s safe to say these are a crowd favorite. The cheesecake is a New York style crust and batter, so it’s rich and sweet, a perfect palate cleanser. Choose from toppings of fresh fruit, fruit jam/mash drizzle, caramel, Chantilly cream (whipped cream), and of course chocolate, or order a combination of each.
We’re pretty firm believers that chocolate makes everything better…because chocolate, right?! Some of the best ideas are strawberries, pretzels, marshmallows, Oreo cookies and cake truffles (cake pops without the stick).
Even though the holidays this year might look a little different, it doesn’t mean we can’t still have great food! Don’t forget, we’re here to help keep you and your loved ones safe. If you are planning a socially distanced or virtual gathering, ask us about our shipping services. Between shipping and delivery to those in the Phoenix area, sharing sweet treats with your family and friends is still definitely something worth celebrating!
]]>It doesn’t matter if you’re a kid in pre-school, a banker on Wall Street or yes, even an engaged couple planning a wedding – COVID-19 has affected your best laid plans in some way. While we can only offer cookies to console the kids and maybe some mini cupcakes for the bankers; if you’re planning a wedding, read on to learn more about the post-COVID wedding cake trends making the rounds.
Couples are pivoting wedding plans, changing everything from their guest list, to finding a new venue, to postponing wedding dates and more often than ever foregoing the big wedding altogether and opting for an intimate elopement with family. Whichever option they choose though, there must be cake. There should always be cake. So, how do wedding cakes look different in this new normal we’re all finding ourselves?
For one, less people equals smaller cake. Weddings that were once 100 guests are now 30 or fewer. We’re used to building four and five tier cakes for weddings, the kind you can see across a grand ballroom or reception hall. These days smaller, two-tier cakes are more popular. These more simply designed cakes with accompanying mini desserts, still catch guests’ eyes from across the room. But they have the added bonus of not leaving the bride and groom with a freezer full of wedding cake until their 5th anniversary. Another advantage of this pivot is the ability to cater to dietary restrictions. It makes a lot more sense to make a gluten-free or dairy-free cake for a few people than one for 100+ guests, with which someone is bound to be unhappy.
Along with the trend of smaller wedding cakes, come more simply designed cakes. Bakers report that requests for fondant cakes have decreased drastically, while brides have been increasingly keen on the simpler buttercream frosting designs, like those from Silver Rose Bakery. The explanation for this particular pivot is unclear. It could have to do with the fact that buttercream is less costly than fondant. Or maybe it’s because couples are opting for more outdoor weddings and fondant doesn’t do great in variable temperatures. We can only assume though, that the real reason is because buttercream makes for better face smashing.
With these simpler designs, fresh floral is making a huge comeback, especially for DIY weddings. Brides, bridal parties or families are able to order their cakes from a bakery like Silver Rose, then add their own twist to it with beautiful, fresh floral to match their other wedding décor. This simple touch goes a long way to add elegance to those backyard weddings that are becoming more popular.
You might have guessed; we love cake here at Silver Rose Bakery. So, we saved our favorite post-COVID wedding cake trend for last. Cake comes earlier! The cake cutting comes sooner in the evening than it did before. With smaller weddings, come shorter timelines. We’ve all been there, waiting over an hour for each guest to finish their dinner. Then, another hour for all of the speeches. We love those stories about the groom’s college days, but we want cake! With this new trend, couples all over are opting to cut the cake shortly after dinner concludes, rather than late in the evening. This is definitely a trend of which we whole-heartedly approve!
We’re all pivoting. Pivoting at work, at home and at weddings. Smaller cakes, simplicity of design with some fresh floral added, ease to accommodating dietary restrictions and cutting the cake earlier in the evening...these pivots are just a few of the most popular post-COVID wedding cake trends. Which is your favorite? Have you adopted any for your post-COVID wedding? Tell us about it!
